From Bilbao, we took a beautiful bus ride through Northern Spain. Matthew adores pastoral mountainscapes...it promised to be a lucky trip!
Our hotel was about 30 minutes outside the city and this was the name of the train stop...try saying that 5 times fast :)
We stayed in lovely old-worldness!
We knew our final destination was dinner in one of the world's great culinary cities, but we didn't know where that would be, so we wandered around San Sebastian...
Canons at the top of Urgull hill, an old military defense point.
The bay they protected.
At the top of Urgull is the fortress, Mota Castle.
Facing the Bay of Biscay, this tribute honored the soldiers who fought here.
Cutest little boy sitting outside a shop with his toys!
WOW.
How to choose? I'll just have one of each, please.
The motto we adopted!
We loved the geology. This building houses a great photography gallery, too.
Not photoshopped. (He scored.)
Even lovely when it rains!
Cuteness!
We came across this old castle, completely locked up but adorned with flowers in full bloom.
While walking around to the other side we heard - just briefly - what sounded like music from within! The doors and windows were completely boarded up. We were baffled until our taxi driver solved the mystery...it's a music conservatory!
We took shelter from the rain in the aquarium.
San Sebastian: recommended!
In fact, we (Andrea) could hardly wait to try making some pintxos of our (her) own!
